Welcome to 5D's blog!

What a fabulous start 5D have made to the new school year! I have been so impressed with their responsible attitude and willingness to learn.

In Maths we have been recapping place value and using column addition to add 4 digit numbers. We will be moving onto subtraction next week.

We began our new unit in Literacy 'Poets Voices'. The children have enjoyed reading poems by Charles Causely and using his as models to create their own poems. We will study poems by Michael Rosen next week.

Our topic in Science this half term will be Space. You should have received a parent mail today informing you of a trip to the Space Centre in Leicester on October 4th. Please could I ask for reply slips as soon as possible.

We began our new Geography topic 'Climate Change' on Tuesday. I was impressed with the childrens prior knowledge and the homework they produced over the summer holidays was fantastic. Next week we will study places along the Gambia River and look at how the local people have been affected by the unreliability of rainfall in these areas.

Thank you to all of those parents who were able to attend the parent meeting on Wednesday, I hope you found it informative. If any of those parents who were unable to attend would like a copy of the slides, please email the office and I will forward these on.

Enjoy your weekend. I hope the children have a well deserved rest after a busy first week back!
